Potential School's History

In 1998 The Potentials Charters School opened its doors as the first Charter School in Florida and the only school in the nation for children who were unable to walk and communicate effectively. The dream was simple:to eliminate all the barriers to learning for these children so that they could go to their neighborhood schools and be included with appropriate peers.

For many the dream has become a reality. We are very proud of that. We are equally proud that, in addition to teaching these children in state-of-the-art facilities, we also learned from them and their families. We grew as they did, in more ways than one.

In the decade that followed the opening of the Potentials School in Riviera Beach, people became more aware of our successes, and our enrollment doubled, leading to the expansion of staff, services and
programs. Advances in communications, technology and the installation of major physical therapy facilities (including an "endless" pool) have increased our ability to meet our students' goals for maximum independence.

We are privileged to serve these children who always steal our hearts and imaginations; and we remain committed to them the tools necessary to succeed in their neighborhood schools. That was the goal in 1998; that remains the goal today.
