Stepping Stones Early Intervention Program
The Arc's Stepping Stones Early Intervention Program is the first step in a continuum
of services for families with an infant/child diagnosed with a developmental
disability. Components include regular home visits by a Parent Infant Educator
who works alongside parents to assist infants and toddlers, up to age three,
in reaching developmental milestones. Parents are taught how to stimulate the
child's progress in the areas of cognitive and motor development, language training
and self-help skills. Click for more information.
Prevention Services
Learning Together Centers
The Arc's Learning Together Center provide child care to infants and preschoolers
whose teenage parent (s) are enrolled in a Palm Beach County School District's
Teen Parent Program. This collaboration between the Arc and the School District
was designed as a prevention program to target each child's needs for optimum
development in a stable and nurturing environment. At the same time, the teen
parents are continuing their high school education and learning essential child
rearing skills.
Family Services
Parent Support Groups
Family-to-Family provides a matching program to give parents and caregivers
of newly diagnosed children or families new within our community the opportunity
to speak with an experienced parent who has concerns similar to their own.
The experienced families lend emotional support and act as guides through the
maze of services available to our community. The program also provides education
and training opportunities for decision makers, service providers, families,
medical community and others regarding the needs of persons with disabilities.
COPE is one The Arc's parent education groups which meets regularly to discuss
important issues for families raising a child who is disabled. Click

Developmental
Enhancement Project
As a specialist in child development, this teacher will act as a resource to center staff. Children whose teachers indicate a developmental area of concern will be screened initially through the use of an observation tool. Once it is determined by the Special Educator, the concern is valid, a general assessment of the child will be administered. The Hawaii Early Learning Profile (HELP) will be administered to children exhibiting concerns in cognitive development. A functional assessment/motivational assessment will be administered to children exhibiting behaviors which interfere with learning. Depending on the results of the assessment, the Developmental Specialist will develop a plan of action and share this with the child's teacher and parent. Based on the plan of action, activity plans will be developed in the domain of concern. The center staff will learn the appropriate method to use to include children exhibiting areas of concern into the daily activities of the classroom.
Therapeutic Education
Potentials Charter School
Potentials School is a public charter school which serves children 3-10 years
of age who are unable to walk and have limited speech. The school began as
a dream of The Arcís staff, board and parents who saw the need for a school
that set high standards and expectations for young school-age children with
severe disabilities.
Advancements
in technology have greatly improved lifeís possibilities
for these children. At Potentials School the teachers and therapists
expect the most from their young students. They provide a setting
where intensive classroom learning experiences are combined with
in-classroom speech, occupational and physical therapy. Currently,
the program serves thirty children. Click
