West Palm Beach, Fla. (July 9, 2026) – Sunday, July 26, marks the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark civil rights legislation that expanded opportunities for millions of Americans with disabilities. While the ADA has opened doors for more than 45 million Americans, only about 37 percent of working-aged adults with disabilities are employed. The Arc of Palm Beach County continues to close this gap by advancing employment opportunities that help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities prepare for, secure, and maintain meaningful jobs.
“The ADA was a defining moment in creating greater opportunity and inclusion for people with disabilities,” said Pamela Payne, president and CEO of The Arc of Palm Beach County. “The Arc of Palm Beach County is proud to build on that legacy by creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to learn, work, and live as valued members of our community.”
The Arc of Palm Beach County supports individuals at every stage of life through a comprehensive continuum of services designed to foster independence and employment success. Beginning with early intervention programs and continuing through Bodwell Academy, the organization’s tuition-free charter school for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Beyond the classroom, clients have access to a wide range of programs and services, from adult day training and supported living to vocational and employment supports, where they gain the education, skills, confidence, and independence needed to achieve meaningful employment and thrive in their communities.
“Without the ADA, individuals with disabilities would face far greater barriers to education, employment, and independence,” said Chris Jones, director of Adult Day Training Program at The Arc of Palm Beach County. “Through individualized education, vocational training, and ongoing support, people with disabilities are developing the skills and confidence to pursue meaningful careers and greater independence.”
